On Today’s Show

On GPS at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. ET on CNN:

First, Fareed will give his take on the Trump-ordered, US killing of Iranian military leader Qasem Soleimani, including what the surprising development means for America, Iran, the Middle East, and the world.

Fareed will then be joined by author and former US State Department senior adviser Vali Nasr and New Yorker Staff Writer Dexter Filkins, who profiled Soleimani for the magazine in 2013; the two will review who Soleimani was, his uniquely important position in Iran, the long shadow he cast over the region, and the complicated history of relations between the US, Iran, and Iraq (where Soleimani was killed by an American drone).

Next, Fareed will discuss the broader foreign-policy implications of the strike with a panel of Council on Foreign Relations President Richard Haass, former US deputy national security advisor Meghan O’Sullivan (now of Harvard), and Atlantic contributing writer Peter Beinart.

Finally, Fareed interviews David Epstein, author of Range: Why Generalists Triumph in a Specialized World, who discusses why it’s okay—and indeed preferable—to be a jack of all trades.
